I don’t care what the writers say. Aang was a great dad— it’s not in his personality to be neglectful. Even if he got carried away by his duties, or showed more attention to Tenzin later on, then Katara would have put him in his place. It’s not in her nature to LET him be a neglectful dad—especially since Katara knows personally how painful it is to have a father be constantly gone due to his “duties.”

They may have had their ups and downs, like any other family, but they were happy and supportive and together.
